Eitan Story

Eitan Samuel Stern-Robbins

The Impossible Shot or Why I Owe Eitan $20

Reading Clay's post about Eitan's patented "knee first" basketball strategy reminded me of another time we were playing basketball together.

A few of us were outside Nelson's house (I think it was Eitan, Nelson, Max, Ian and myself) one Spring day just shooting some hoops and messing around. After we had been playing for a while, someone shot the ball and it ended up bouncing like 30 or 40 feet down Nelson's driveway. Eitan ran to get it, but as soon as he picked it up we told him to stop where he was. He had a clear shot so we told him to try and make the shot from where he was. It was so ridiculous that when he asked what he would receive for making such a godly shot we told him he'd get $20 from each of us and would automatically win every game of basketball we played from now on, regardless of how many points he scored. So Eitan agreed and started lining up his shot in a very careful and serious way. Finally he pulled back and threw the ball into the hoop, nothing but net, and immediately started jumping up and down and rubbing it in our faces. We were all in such disbelief that we just ended the game right there and went inside.
